Midwest String Rentals prides itself on offering violins, violas and cellos in sizes to meet every string student’s needs at affordable prices. This page provides an overview of the rental process. We encourage you to contact us with any additional questions you may have.
Initiating a Rental

Once you’ve decided to rent, the next step is to let us know what type of instrument(s) you need. You can do this either by filling out our online Rental Request Form or by calling us at 312.566.0429, so that we can reserve your instrument. We’ll then schedule an appointment for you to come in to finalize paperwork, determine correct size if not sure, and pick up the instrument. Midwest String Rentals’ experienced staff will assist with determining the right size violin, viola or cello and taking care of any special needs the student or teacher may have.
Fees and Paperwork

We make it easy! To begin renting an instrument a parent, guardian or other responsible adult need only complete a Rental Agreement Form including basic credit information. A security deposit is not needed if the form is filled out in its entirety. The minimum rental period is two months, billed up front; after that we bill monthly. A discounted rate applies if automatic billing is selected. You may cancel the contract at any time, and billing ends when you return the instrument. Your rental fee includes the instrument, a protective case, bow, and written tips for proper care.

Instrument Maintenance

Routine maintenance is included free of charge for all our rental instruments. Routine maintenance covers cleaning, adjusting of pegs, tailgut, tuners, and soundpost. New strings are not covered under routine maintenance and are the responsibility of the renter. Please refer to our guide to proper care of your rental instrument.
Please note that MSR will not cover maintenance for damage caused by neglect, accident, fire, theft, or any change to the instrument other than normal wear and tear. Rental instruments are not insured by MSR; we encourage all renters to seek damage and loss coverage on their homeowners’ or renters’ insurance policies and will provide an appraisal free of charge to facilitate this process. We can also provide a referral to a company specializing in musical instrument insurance.
